Sitting down by the telly as a babby, I still had structured plots and broadcast schedules to abide by, for cartoons which had set seasons/episodes, which naturally limited the time I could feasibly spend in front of the TV, once some gay shit show I didn't like came on, I could move to something else
I don't know howd you ever imitate that in the modern world without being uncanny feeling I that ned flanders parenting kinda way, other than just amassing a large stock pile of DVD, but even then it still means they can just watch through entire shows in one go
