The "name" is less of a name and more of a designation.
If a dolphin changes pods, both of these calls change.
They also have different calls for interesting, food, playful, and danger.
Dogs do the same thing. You can pretty effectively communicate with your dog if you can understand these symbols, and create your own that it can learn. Think of it as functioning on a 12 "word" vocabulary.
Koko had like 20 "words", they just filled in the gaps to make it sound like she was talking.
