I did a sales job years ago, in life insurance. It was the most brutal, awful job I have ever had. And my first job was working overnights at Walmart as a janitor. It may be somewhat easier in the automotive industry since the customer-base is already looking for your product, but in my case it required being a total sociopath and trying to get people to sign on the dotted line for riders on policies that they did not need. You have to bother people that specifically do not want to be bothered, and try to play it off like you either didn't see the signs saying to fuck off or that you ignored the signs because your product is THAT good. And the entire time, everyone knows you're full of shit and rightfully hates your guts. You have to be the type of guy that could push a kid down the stairs and then beg everyone for donations to fix his broken arm to be successful in sales. I work in finance now so I know a few people in sales, and while some of them are nice guys I wouldn't say a single thing to them in confidence.
