West Virginia alone would have tens of billions of tons of met coal for future use, particularly in the southern counties.
But so far, they just use the room and pillar/continuous miner method down there, not longwalls. In theory, some of those seams could support longwall production, but the industry is focusing for now on the lower hanging fruit.
So yeah, coke might cost some more later this century, in America at least -- even if huge quantities of coking coal are found in Alaska, good for longwalling, the costs might remain relatively higher than at Leer and Warrior just due to geographic isolation -- but we'll have plenty of coking coal. America will be supplying excellent coking coal for many generations and probably centuries to come. Ukraine also has large quantities of coking coal.
