OP here. An interesting point relevant to this post IMO is that Bill rushed to Waco around the same time Timothy McVeigh went there too. They may even have crossed paths as they both watched the siege from afar.
__________
On Bill visiting Waco during the siege
>"On 6 March, Bill and Kevin drove an hour north from Austin [...] to the little town of Waco. [...] Bill was fascinated by the Branch Davidians' thirty-three-year-old leader, David Koresh. Koresh was born Vernon Wayne Howell in Houston to a fifteen-year-old single mother, had a lonely childhood as a misfit, and headed for Hollywood in the late seventies to become a rock star. [...] Bill said Koresh reminded him of himself 'without the guns and pussy'."

On Bill's subsequent fascination with Waco
>"It was a tape of one of the tanks - a government vehicle - shooting into the Branch Davidian compound. I happened to catch it one night and I taped it. I showed it to Bill; and I think that was a seminal moment for him. [...] Bill would actually play that Waco footage at shows. If the club had a projector or even a TV cart and a VCR, he would play it and tell the audience, "Do you see that? You are being lied to. Right there.""
