>>11947680The Bible says in Corinthians that it is normal for men to have short hair and women to have long hair. It says having a clothing covering when praying for a woman shows submission and a covering for a man as defiance. Then there are also natural coverings, i.e, the hair, wherein it is normal for men to have short hair and women to have long hair. Going against this is to go against the natural order.
One of the earliest instances pertaining to long hair is in the book of Judges. The Book tells a story of a man named Samson who made a Nazarite vow to the Lord. What is interesting is that part of this vow is to grow long hair. Samson was strong when he had long hair and was weakened with short hair. Some might say that this is proof that men should have long hair because why else would the Bible show this? Well, this isn't just about long hair but making a vow to God. So while Samson has gone against what is normal it is not held against him. Instead it is breaking the vow of cutting his long hair that is held against him. This also helps us know that the covering in Corinthians is primarily about a piece of clothing and NOT long hair. Long hair is only used as an example for natural head covering. And it cannot be a sin for a man to have long hair or else the Lord punished Samson also because he stopped commiting a sin!
So we all know what hair is, but what constitutes long hair? Is it hair that goes past the jaw? Does it have to reach the shoulders or go past the shoulders? We must try to understand what the Bible speaks about long hair. But it is clear that it is normal for a man to have short hair, it is not a sin to have long hair and men should not cover their heads during prayer.
