It's done far more harm than good, and has made the public opinion of trannies FAR worse than it was before. (at least here in the US)
Sadly, because of the current "Social Justice" culture, it will probably get even worse as leftists run it into the ground. I absolutely feel for you, and I seriously hope that those doing it for clout get bored of it soon, and public opinion does a 180.
And regarding the sex reassignment surgery: I can't speak for other people, but personally, I have an aversion to it because of all the horror stories of people getting EXTREMELY suicidal and traumatized post-op, a lot of cases WORSENING any depression they may have had sooner. Hell, one of my closest friends committed suicide shortly after exactly BECAUSE of that. I absolutely URGE you that if you REALLY want/feel like you need it, please please PLEASE wait until medical technology gets better
TL;DR: Most people nowadays who identify as trans are exactly what you were labelled as (or just doing it for clout) by the very "Social activists" pushing it, thus souring public opinion of them.
