I don't think they're evil, I like the idea that they tried their best to create the idea of God here in the material world, but failed simply because it's impossible to materialize God, because Ideas are perfect, but implementations never are.
The idea of a chair and chair-like-ness never fails, but the chairs we build inevitably have a flaw. That's the analogy I think about a lot.
