A-frames have excellent thermal retention due to their design - the peak of the ceiling is a choke-point where heat collects and builds. Rather than a traditional home with a hip roof or other nonsense with 15 slopes, these homes hold their heat quite well. With proper ventilation, they also shed heat easily in the summer since it collects and naturally funnels up and out.
You also have little worry from wind storms and ice damming is virtually a non-issue due to the aggressive pitch.
