The truth is in the scribes, but the words have been mangled throughout time for a variety of reasons pertaining to different religious groups. God is real, yes. Different folk call him different names. Some folk call him bad names. Personally, I'd rather be on the big fella's good side. I try to be a decent person because it's just good to be good, but also because yes I fear the creator's wrath. A YouTuber named John Doyle put it so perfectly in one of his videos. He said something along the lines of "If I'm wrong, well then I wasn't able to take advantage of girls with low self-esteem or be a degenerate. But if YOU'RE wrong, then your soul will rot and suffer for eternity." Such an epic quote, literally be a good person for yourself and for the creator.
