the leftist environmentalists are unwittingly right on that. Wrong on most other shit though. There are 4 main mammal groups:
Africa - Afrotherians (elephants, dugongs, manatees)
South America - Xenarthrans (sloths, anteaters, armadillos)
Island Europe - Euarchontoglires (rodents, rabbits, monkeys)
Laurasia - Laurasiatherians (tigers, lions, buffalo, whales, etc etc)
Notice that Laurasiatherians are virtually all majestic animals. They require a low population density. They are well formed and exceptionally diverse. The reason is that whatever comes from the world island always dominates the world. Laurasia was the biggest landmass, so it produces the most powerful forms.
