It’s like the “what is a sandwich” argument when you describe a sandwich as fillings between two layers of bread. That makes a ravioli a sandwich, a pop tart is a sandwich, a hot dog is a sandwich. But that’s not too crazy
A salad is just a set of base components tossed in sauce/dressing.
Pasta is a salad. Cheese fries are a salad. Soup is a fucking salad as it’s just base components with way too much sauce.
A pizza is just a salad on bread, it’s an open face sandwich, if you fold it in half it exists in a quantum state of being a pizza, a salad, a taco and a sandwich all at once. You could also argue that if you crimp the edges to fully seal this folded pizza you have just made a calzone. That is not just a calzone, it is also a sandwich, a burrito, a pierogi, a ravioli and a salad.
It’s best to not think about food structure too much
