What you're seeing is basic human nature, previously hidden underneath the carefully created social facades of decorum, now exposed in its raw form by the abrasive scouring of the free exchange of ideas. Its the same thing that has happened in other eras, except in ours it progresses much faster, due to the speed of the technology involved.
Like in other times, our society will adapt after a period of uncertain tumult. The real danger is whether or not we've reached an era where the rate of progress in technology has outpaced our ability to absorb the changes. If you push someone, they will stagger and regain their balance. If you push them again before they've balanced, they'll fall.
