The idea is to line the bottom of the pan with th fruit, then put the cake ou top. Once it cools it gets inverted...hence, the 'upside down' element.
I really only chose it because its name reminded me of these crazy times.
You can tick a candle into anything, and call it a birthday cake. My eldest liked the ones I made him out of two layers of meatloaf, 'frosted' with garlic mashed potatoes, with pan-fried corn and carmelized onion filling. Stuck a candle in them, and to this day he tells the story. Lol
