It's absolutely ridiculous. Kali, like all polytheistic systems, is a personification of different aspects of spiritual principles, energies, forces, etc. into something that people can tell stories about to explain how those forces work and for people to see the effects of Kali in their daily life.
Same thing with any of the Greco-Roman Gods, Germanic Gods, Shinto Gods, all of that. All those gods exist and are real, in the sense that the didn't come from nothing. You can "see" them. It's a lot of reading between the lines. A lot of "look past the literal" kind of stuff you have to do.
