>>10776541ah. yeah in that case it's fine having one close, they're primarily aesthetic after a certain point and having your biggest one in particular close to the pod isn't a bad idea just for travel distance purposes.
i'd highly recommend making the vehicle bay and setting it out near where you plan to put the base if you don't have the big room yet.
they're mostly for organization if i remember correctly. i think they might contribute to hull capacity but not enough to matter.
basically if your base is too big it'll spring leaks and the only way to stop it is to increase hull capacity. the only way i've ever done it is with reinforcements which is just lead or something that you can shove on walls. they're not hard to get the materials for and the only other things that you'd build commonly and would go in the same place the reinforcements do are windows and hallways to other rooms
oh yeah that reminds me if you care about looking cool my advice is to favor verticality in your building. you can stack the standard general purpose rooms on top of each other and place ladders from the inside. just trust me when i say there are some stuff you can build later on that's better higher up and some stuff that will look better if you have stacked rooms to work with
