If growing up you had friends and acquaintances in the other religion you could easily see it, it's the Arabs that are at the top of the hierarchy and everyone else, although they accept their leadership, distrusts them. Arabs play the same role jews do in traditionally Christian societies. They enforce moral restrictions that although we take them for our own they only work for their benefit.
Examples:
>lending money at an interest is bad (usury!) only jews should be allowed to do it
>polygamy is bad, only jews should be able to do it
>you should give whatever money you have to spare to the church
etc etc
