You were sheltered from the world which is why you have a sheltered view towards things like sex and dating. It's fine I was an awkward kid at one point too being raised by mormon fundamentalists. I didn't get a sex talk until I was already a man and had been having sex for 8 years. You gotta push through it to socialize on the topics that you find interesting and can be confident in. People will look at your knowledge and energetic attitude and think "wow this dude is really into this it must be cool". No matter how much you want to shut yourself away from them you gotta push through that feeling of being an outsider which brings me to my next point.

If you're at a party or in a social setting and see a bunch of people grouped together talking just walk over and kick it with them. If you have an opinion or an observation just start talking. They'll respond to your confidence and think they're now inferior to you.
