>>20133324The really good coal in Ukraine is in the Donbas, and the mines still operating in Ukraine are right outside the zone of Russia's occupation. Russia has attacked coal-fired power plants in the Donbas but not coal mines (yet). I'm not sure Putin would order something quite that nasty, as I believe he feels, in his heart, a certain kinship and national identity with the eastern Ukrainians, many of whom are Russian speakers, and he's made statements in the past about respecting miners and the need to do more for them in Russia. I don't believe Putin is evil, basically. He has a vision of Russian glory -- and why shouldn't Russia be a glorious country?
So I have no side, really, in this fight. I just love that Donbas coal! That coal basin is an absolute treasure of resources, rich in coal and other minerals, rich in methane, rich in steel plants and skilled workers -- and the biggest population center in Ukraine. It's not hard, after doing some in depth study of the region's industry and people, to see why Putin wants it and why Ukraine is extremely hesitant to give it up.
Also, the Ukrainian women I've been in touch with are just amazing. They are so feminine and gorgeous, as are Russian women. Eastern European women might be the loveliest in the world at this time.
American women were probably amazing a century ago, but feminism -- especially third and now fourth wave feminism -- have made them harpies. I could see having a good life in the Donbas, as either a resident of Ukraine or of Russia (whichever side owns it in the end), when the war is over.
Peace on earth, good will toward men.
