The nicotine hit from pipe tobacco can be fairly subtle, that's not always the case depending on the exact tobacco you're smoking and might be considered an advantage instead of a disadvantage for some people. But overall, the most popular tobaccos tend to be somewhat anemic in terms of nicotine. 2. The kit and ritual involved with pipe smoking can be something of a bother. Not just the pipe itself and all of the little nuances that come with each individual pipe or design, and the fact that you have to light it twice, and be careful not to burn the rim often requiring a special lighter, tamping the ash, etc, but also the general care that needs to be taken of the pipe such as proper cake build up and reaming and cleaning, etc. There is a little bit of an art to it, but if you can get over that stuff, pipe smoking is orders of magnitude more enjoyable than any cigarette you'll ever have or any cigar you'll ever smoke.
