if you apologize, you assume guilt on your part. but are you wrong? really? maybe you're not. maybe someone else is wrong too. and THEY aren't apologizing are they?
or they took offense to something they thought you said but it wasn't what you meant? if you apologize you are forfeiting all agency you have for no reason. ALL HUMAN RELATIONSHIPS break down to power dynamics and apologizing is like presenting your spread ass so you can later be henpecked to death the next time something happens. suddenly apologizing is all you seem to do anymore.
