First, the only issue with premarital sex comes from Christian dogma. There's no evidence to suggest that this practice has any bearing on a successful marriage but a lot in the other direction. Suffice to say you wouldn't buy a car without taking it for a test drive.
Now to actually answer your question. (you) have felt this way most likely because you hold firm to the Christian beliefs you were raised with and as such feel as though people think you're a bad person when you say you're saving yourself. They're not saying you're a bad person but you're definitely the odd ball. You're the guy going to the used car dealership and just handing the guy money. Sexual compatibility is very important as more than a few divorces are enacted because of sex.
