And on that subject, a very early Berber leader in the 8th century named Salih ibn Tarif claimed to have received a second Quran from God, and basically established his own post-Muslim religion with all kinds of new rules and revelations, he also said he was the Mahdi and then went into occultation a-la the Twelfth Imam for the Shiites.
