This is encouraged by the basic properties of the universe, which form the properties of life: Entropy and randomness creating competition favour a will to survive, spatial heterogeneity favours specialisation and thereby compassion, lawfulness favours memory, which can be used to miss other life etc. So life will go on to make things better. To varying degrees, but in general, above laws stand. Maybe, one day, life bill be able to overcome the fabric of reality, and decouple action from harm, creating some better form of existence all the religions talk about.
