He's really strong in the early game, almost as strong as squirtle. But he becomes something you don't easily get in the mid game- a grass type with neat control powers that isn't a piece of shit bitch that dies to literally anything. Oh he's not the only way to score that, but he's generally the best at it and has some powerful moves. Since you'll be getting other guys that are just good bruisers (Blastoise's main thing), that's my recommendation.
