You could argue that it also has roots in folk too, and it does, but without the blues, genres like R&B, rock, disco, hip hop, jazz, funk, house, techno, pop, swing, and soul would not exist. Hell, even "white" genres like heavy metal, trance, and Eurodance wouldn't exist if not for the sheer influences of blues rock/psychedelic rock (which both have roots in black music) and house/techno (house came from Chicago;s black areas, techno came from Detroit's black suburban areas).
