The color of you iris, is the color of the choroid, and a pigmentless choroid reflects blue light back.
That is not an advantage during the day, as you get more noise, but it helps you detect movement when it's dark up north.
What is your explanation to why reindeer change their eye color to blue during the winter, btw?
