The obvious theory is that the mark in the revelation are RFID chips replacing credit cards when they get rid of cash and are put into your right hand or forehead.
But as above so below, while this is the physical version there is also a spiritual version i believe. You have the mark, the 666 in your right hand (with which you are doing stuff) or on your (fore)head with which you think. Having the utter materialism and egoism in your deeds (right hand) or mind (forehead) is the physical version of the mark.
