Come to think of it, it did remind me of a similar (albeit less drawn out and elaborate) experience I had on LSD where I saw a repeating pattern of these weird creatures starting small, growing bigger and then deteriorating and falling apart. In that moment my understanding of evolution and my belief in a deterministic universe merged into one seamless theory of how life works. It was pretty neat.
