>>21896771Cheap long term backup that's data grade but lasts 50 years?
DVCAM or HD50.
Keep them stored out of air and they still work just like when new.
They don't get gummy if you put them in Nitrogen rich atmosphere.
You can put RAW Data to them as the software came out back in the OSX 10.2 Jaguar.
Tapes and Decks are cheap and used everywhere.
If you are lucky enough to get a D-VHS?
You can make your own tapes by just getting the Reels themsleves, and roll them in.
They use firewire, so easy to transport our data in.
Get a few parts D-VHS decks, and no problems.
Just store them AWAY from oxygen, and they work great 50 years later as long as you replace the Capacitors.
The tapes don't use any gummy shit or lube on them, so they last.
They only hold about 50GB MAX, but not bad.
Compress your stuff, use 3x ECC, and make a backup of the tape and you should be fine.
If in doubt?
Kodak Archival media gold disks or DVD-RW or CD-RW that use the metal layer if you are worried about cosmic rays.
Otherwise?
Laser 50TB hard drives are right around the corner.
The drive may die, but the platters will still be readable.
Same with older tech HDDs before helium.
