Just don't beat yourself up over it. There is a very physical biological element to this where our nervous system can become stressed our even outright damaged by establishing a signal lock. Often times this can 'feel' like strong imprinted emotions; terror, love, wonder, submission, etc. Without a means of contextualizing that it turns to trauma quick. Consider that we offer our children no training on this, these feelings are entirely subjective, and you can't discuss these things publicly. What else can you feel but weird or crazy? How could you know different? It's really a system that sets people up for failure.
