Buying a radio is not enough. You need to learn it.
>Must have FM,AM,SW at bare minimum
>Learn all the functions.
>Note down all the stations recieved in your area
>Learn to make antennas.
>Test the backup
>Test the ruggedness
Stay away from survival radios like picrel.
>The hand crank is a small 3v motor and won't generate anything significant. You'll lose more energy which translates into more consumption of food and water.
>The solar panel is again worthless for the size. Moreover you won't leave your radio out there in open for everyone to see for whole day. Not wise.
>DON'T buy a Radio with flashlight. When you're buying a radio, buy just a radio. Flashlights are heavy consumption items and you'll spend all your battery using it as flashlight and there won't be anything left when you need to listen to radio.
>Moreover with a shit light in your radio, you'll try to save money and probably skip buying a flashlight altogether which is a VERY BAD IDEA.
Just stay away from general shit which says survival/emergency in their title.
