Here's a fun experiment that anybody can do to measure the rotation of the Earth. All you need is an accurate digital scale and a friend who lives in different part of the world (you can even pair off with /pol/ flags!)
1. Take a small item and measure its weight. Make sure you get an accurate reading and record it to as many decimal points as possible.
2. Mail this item to a friend. This works best if your friend lives at a substantially different latitude than you.
3. Have your friend measure the item and compare your findings.
If you do the experiment correctly, you'll see that the item actually weighs more the closer you are to the poles and less if you are closer to the equator. This is a direct result of Earth's spin counteracting the force of gravity.
