It's actually pretty pervasive once you finally notice it. Probably a lot of the way other cultures are viewed in anglophone speaking countries comes through a very old English aristocracy lens. I probably should have clicked this a bit earlier in Ireland, but I never watched a lot of UK television.
That said the food thing is true. Nobody does food more seriously than the French. The rest of us have questions to answer.
