quantum field theory is the most successful and accurate theory ever produced by man. its accurate to within amazing accuracy.
and even IT, is not 100% /ab initio/. the theory is like a crown with sockets for jewels. without the jewels, the crown is pointless (it only tells you how the jewels would be situated with relation to each other). QFT (and physics as a whole) rely on CONSTANTS, measured by experiment and plugged into the theory (for example, the mass of an electron needs to be plugged in).
What if these constants vary of space, time or space-time?
