>>13515426The Zionistic tendencies of modern evangelicalism have their roots in the Scofield Reference Bible, released in the early 1900s. He introduced the secret rapture theory into mainstream Christian thought and popularized dispensationalism. Dispensationalism maintains a radical distinction between God’s plan for the church and God’s plan for Israel. His notes were very pro-Israel and Zionistic. This study Bible was very popular and influential because it was the first Bible with marginal commentary notes since the Geneva Bible of 1560. Yet literally no one believed in the whole pro-Israel, Left Behind theology before Scofield’s Bible. Prior to the Scofield reference Bible, the Jews were generally not viewed favorably by Christians and were seen as the murderers of Christ, and Christians believed simply in the public second coming of Christ and the general resurrection. Interestingly enough, the publication of Scofield’s Bible was backed by Jewish bankers in England.

Although he was Jewish, Paul’s writings have been labeled as anti-Semitic by modern rabbis.
