A group of thinkers with a diversity of thought, behavior, principles, backgrounds, opinions, etc are most likely to illuminate all possibilities. The more possibilities are known the more can be understood to be probable, and the more that can be understood to be probable the more can be understood to be preferable.
Note that preferability changes over time for every individual due to external factors. Fascism assumes it should not change, thus locking a society into a thought that cannot adapt over time, reducing the likelihood that the outcome will be preferable.
