Javascript is a tough beast, I'm beginning to learn server side development for my major (cyber security) and it's a pain. It's good to understand though! If you are trying to learn server stuff, like node.js, it can help to start with PHP so you understand the fundamentals. If you are just learning to do other cool stuff then good luck! It's super rewarding to see your projects come together.
