ofc not the topic is still extremely interesting even if the lectures themselves are a bit cringe right now. i just study the textbook more and look up stuff i'm curious about.
for example the book said すみません can be used as excuse me/sorry/thank you but didn't explain when it can be used as thank you or how it differs from ありがとう when u do. i looked it up and found out that すみません is pretty much only usable as thank you when somebody has gone out of their way for you but only when it's a small thing since the post also explained that the emphasis of a word/phrase is directly tied to it's length. so while someone lending $50 would be them going out of their way for you it'd be quite rude to use such a short phrase to thank them for something significant like this.
