The lower part of it is populated by mostly new mexican hispanics that kraut mentioned to this very day. They're really cool people but obsessed with the conquestadors. They also are a lot more spanish than mestizo. A large amount of US hispanics are white spanish ancestery including the vast majority of new Mexicans which is majority non white only on paper when it's almost entirely spanish settlers like in argentina. Despite them being white in excecution, they really do have their own identity. A strange mix of local native and conquistador.
