The fact that Japan's population is shrinking and nobody is fucking having babies is pretty fucked. Already there is going to be a big gap in Generations and that has ugly implications for the future.
Japan actually thinks that if they can get robots going they can save their economy and become self-sufficient in important fields, but right now they rely HEAVILY on imports since their location is just fucking terrible for sustainable land.
Either they succumb to the fate of immigration like the west and lose their national identity like all countries who have adopted it, or they succeed in creating next generation robotics that actually brings them back up to competitive levels on the global scale.
They took a huge blow with the 2020 Olympics, though.
