As far as I can tell european paganism had the understanding of the physical and spiritual realm and although these spaces overlapped at times they were not the same thing.
If paganism was the worship of gods and ancestors but modern neopagans see the gods as archetypal representations of the human condition then you've fundamentally created a new atheistic religion from ancient myths.
It would be like new-chriatians not believing In god or that Jesus was the son of god. That he is just a archetypal representation of the ideal man or some shit.
Imo if you don't believe in the metaphysical aspects of paganism you're not pagan.
