>>18731693>>18731699>>18731704An involuntary tremor comes over Colby Jefferson as Nika's fate is put in her hands. Is this a test? Can she pass it? Is this what it means to be a Divine Angel?
Colby instinctively pats her sides, where the pockets of her tactical pants would be. Her pepper spray, her metal spike, her brass knuckles. They're not there. She's only wearing this flimsy blue dress, and nothing more. She could probably strangle Nika with it if she whipped it off and wound it into a rope.
She considers it.
Instead, Colby walks right up in front of Nika and addresses her.
>"I wondered why you never said one word to me, when I first came here. I sent you text messages, left you a note when I was concerned about you, tried to reach out to you the way that the others reached out and made me one of them.">"My mistake. You were never a Divine Angel in the sense that the rest of us are. Never a potential friend, or someone we could turn to for help without Priscilla ordering Gustavo to direct you. You're a tool that Priscilla Divine believes, for the moment, is valuable enough to keep."Colby moves to stand close to Nika. It makes her skin crawl. Colby sniffs, and idly finds herself wondering if Nika Nanakawa has ever heard of shampoo and toothbrushes.
>"That's why you have nothing to fear from me. The only reason to hurt you would be to completely eliminate any chance you'd ever have to do this again, and you'd be no use to Priscilla after that. Not that you're much use now. Don't worry, Nika. I live in reality. I won't hurt you."She places her hands on Nika's shoulders and pulls her in for a hug.
