ignore what the total degen alchies say, the real pain is being a functional alchy. You still have one foot in civilization so you know you can't lose your job/get a dui/surrender to the bottle. every day is a struggle to pretend you're not a raging alchie for the benefit of others mostly. you have to shower, take kids to practice, attend budget meetings all while just wanting to crawl into a cave with sweet cave juice.
