>>9554139This is all because of this discrepancy, the health industry is motivated by a desire for social integration so we prescribe drugs that make current conditions more tolerable but at the expense of your core motivation.
Ultimately this will cause you even MORE time lost as you'll eventually quit to get your motivation back but just end up depressed about how little you've actually progressed.
So my conclusion is if you're depressed it's because there's a fundamental disconnect between where you are and where your body wants you to be, but you cannot internalise the wait for change. So my advice is to just MAKE the change, I have found many depressed people deep down want to make radical changes but dissuade themselves because it's impractical. For example I should have just dropped out, the pain of immediate loss (having to find a new uni, more loan debt) would have been higher than just going to counselling but long term it would have benefited me. My advice is analyse what's really making you unhappy at this very moment and radically change it, move countries, dump your gf, cut out a friend group, whatever it is. The short term losses of starting over in some aspect will be paid back with interest in a few years time when you've made progress. Alternatively anaesthetise yourself and let the issues fester.
