>>10494000In the context of global trade, the United States has only gotten shittier as it's globalized. We were very protectionistic at the beginning of the 20th century (while growing super quickly economically) and have loosened the reins progressively over the ensuing decades. The 90's, with NAFTA and finally the admittance and integration of China into the global trading community in 2001, were the obvious point where we jumped the shark and sent a solid quarter of our working class into unemployment. Anon, I don't know how to explain to you that an economy entirely composed of nurses and uber drivers isn't a real economy at all. You need to protect vital industries and keep your average worker employed, earning, and empowered.
