Occults are secretive because the majority of Humans could never, nor want to understand something like that. LaVey probably created his church to lead normies into worshipping themselves, then going on to other, more serious occult groups. The majority of Human dross will stay a "Satanist" their whole lives for their own ego's sake. Can you see why the occult is so low in numbers now? This special type of individual that it takes to supress his own ego and live through hardship while knowing the masses of Humanity hate him is the reason why the majority of Human dross crafts them up to be something that's not Human. I suppose there's some truth to that claim.
