Empires in general suck, those colonized never like their "owners", and the colonizing powers become arrogant and self aggrandizing.
England, Spain and Denmark have each had a go at the empire business and been toppled (rightly so of course) and have thus be taught an important lesson in humility.

I'd be all for a Scandi/Poli/UK commonwealth, we do have some cultural similarities, we're close by each other and we've all been humiliated by bigger powers and may therefore become quite responsible and kind.
