So what does the Olivet Discourse really mean, particularly the "this generation" part? Did Jesus really believe and teach that the Second Coming and the end of the world were going to coincide with the Fall of Jerusalem and happen during the disciples' lifetime? Because if he did, then he was obviously wrong. And it seems like a good deal of the writers of the Epistles and Revelation thought the same way, with phrases like "the Lord is coming soon" and "this is the last hour" and such. I've tried reading some explanations online, but all but one, Jerome's commentary on Matthew, were mostly unconvincing. Still, I'm hoping you guys could give me some novel points of view on this.
