I'm a biased autist coinfag but it truly is an interesting read, Carothers is quite opinionated so instead of just presenting dry facts and figures he gets animated and editorializes which makes it more engaging and easier to absorb than you might expect. It's the best coin/currency/monetary history book I've ever come across, and a copy is available on eBay for about $13 shipped which I'll buy soon for my dad if no one here jumps on it.
